Pigmented lesions are skin spots that contain high concentration of melanin. Melanin is a brown-black pigment that contributes to skin color and absorbs ultraviolet (UV) light. The cause of pigmented lesions are sun exposure, aging or congenital factors. Common pigmented lesions are moles, birthmarks, harmless freckles, and age spots.
